Every test on TestPlatform is marked by the same rules.
Single-choice, multi-select and numerical questions are marked by one function the moment a test is handed in.
Written answers are marked by the teacher, who also publishes results and the answer key.
The examples on this page are not typed in. Each is sent to that function on the server and its answer is printed here.
1Single-choice (MCQ)
Exactly one option is right.
The right option earns the question's full marks.
Any other option loses the question's negative marks, if it carries any.
A blank costs nothing.
right →scores +marks, wrong →scores −negative, blank →scores 0
A single-choice question of the practice test
2Multi-select (MSQ)
More than one option can be right. There can be more than four options.
Each right tick counts for you and each wrong tick against you.
The net is scaled to the question's marks and rounded to two decimals. It never falls below −negative (or below 0 when there is none).
Full marks need every right option and no wrong one; “Correct” on the sheet means exactly that.
awarded = marks × (right ticks − wrong ticks) ÷ number of right options
A multi-select question of the practice test
The same question with −0.5
A class test setting: 4 marks, −1, key A B of four
3Numerical
No options: you type a number.
It is right when it lies within the question's tolerance of the key, on either side, boundary included.
A wrong number loses the negative marks, if any; a blank costs nothing.
Only a number can be saved: the test refuses anything else with “Enter a valid number.”
correct when |typed − key| ≤ tolerance
The numerical question of the practice test
A class test setting: key 3.33, tolerance 0.01, 2 marks, −0.5

Your ticks
The answer comes back from the same function that marks every test; the example is not saved.
Multi-select marks are rounded to two decimals after scaling.
A multi-select with no negative marking floors at 0.
Tolerance is applied on both sides and includes the boundary.
A blank never scores negative on any question type.
Marks are per question; the total is not scaled to 100.
4Written answers
Typed text, photo pages or both.
Nothing is marked automatically: the sheet shows “Awaiting marking” until the teacher enters a mark.
The mark is between 0 and the question's marks; the server refuses anything else. Full marks show as Correct.
The total is worked out again when each written mark is entered.

Written, 3 marks
Awaiting marking, 0/3
2/3 if marked 2
5Photo pages
For each question the teacher sets whether photo pages are not allowed, optional or required.
Required means the test cannot be handed in until at least one page is uploaded for it.
Pages stay in the order taken and are combined into one PDF for the teacher, who can return a checked copy.
6The total
At submission the total is the sum of the objective marks awarded.
It is never below 0, even when negative marks outweigh the rest.
Once the teacher marks the written answers, the total is the sum of all marks awarded.
total at submission = max(0, Σ marks awarded on objective questions)
7Time and integrity
The timer runs on the server; when it ends the test is submitted with what is saved.
Leaving the tab or opening developer tools raises a warning; right-clicking and blocked shortcuts are recorded without counting.
At the test's limit it is submitted and flagged for the teacher.
8Publishing
A result is never visible while the test is open.
After it closes, the teacher publishes the result. The teacher separately decides whether the answer key, the solutions and the question analysis are shown.
When it is published, students in the class get an in-app notice and an email.
